Schema therapy

Schema therapy

In therapy, we explore how these patterns developed, how they show up today, and what emotional needs lie behind them. An important part of therapy is not only understanding, but also building new emotional experiences and gradually changing habitual ways of reacting.

Schema therapy can be especially helpful when similar difficulties keep recurring in life – for example, in relationships, self-esteem, emotion regulation, or one’s attitude toward oneself – and understanding the problem alone is not enough to bring about change.

Since schema therapy often works with longstanding and deeply rooted patterns, it is usually a longer therapeutic process. The duration of therapy is individual and depends on the nature of the difficulties, the therapy goals, and how extensive a change the person wishes to achieve.
