DBT skills group
The Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills training group is a structured program designed to teach participants practical skills to better understand and regulate emotions, navigate emotionally challenging and crisis situations, and build more effective relationships with others.
The group covers four core DBT skill modules: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Sessions focus on introducing new skills, practicing them through interactive exercises, and discussing strategies for applying them to daily life.
For individual therapy clients who may benefit from DBT skills training, I offer the option to participate in a skills group alongside their individual sessions. The group setting provides an environment not only to learn and practice skills, but also to share experiences with peers. Meeting others who face similar challenges often offers additional support and helps reduce feelings of isolation.
The DBT skills group is structured differently from traditional group psychotherapy – its primary focus is educational and skill-based. Participants are never required to share personal details beyond what they feel comfortable disclosing.
Practical Information
Group sessions take place on Tuesdays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
The program is co-led by a team of six DBT therapists, ensuring the involvement of different therapists in facilitating the group sessions.
Suitability for participation in the DBT skills group is determined individually after evaluating the client’s needs and therapeutic goals.
