Psychological assessment
In my practice, I conduct psychological assessments for adults. Most often, these are carried out on referral from a doctor – for example, a psychiatrist, neurologist, or other specialist – in order to help clarify a person’s psychological functioning and provide additional information for diagnostic purposes and the planning of further treatment. Psychological assessment may be needed for differential diagnosis, as well as for evaluating work capacity and the related psychological functioning.
The assessment process is tailored to the specific referral question. It includes an interview with the client and the use of appropriate standardized psychological assessment methods. Depending on the purpose of the assessment, cognitive abilities, attention and memory, emotional state, personality characteristics, and other aspects of psychological functioning may be evaluated.
After the assessment, the results are compiled and discussed with the client. A psychologist’s report is prepared on the assessment carried out, describing the results and formulating conclusions in line with the purpose of the assessment.
If you have been referred for assessment by a doctor or other specialist, it is advisable to bring the referral and any other medical documentation related to the assessment question to the first meetingting.
